Your arrival airport is in Malaga, it’s the gateway for many a British sun seeker but you’re here for something more unique. You will be met at the Malaga airport and brought to your hotel near the old city center. Malaga as a port town has been entertaining visitors for thousands of years so you’ll be very welcome. Take your time to stretch your legs on the old city streets before we gather for our welcome dinner. Here you will meet your guides and a cadre of fellow riders who will share the adventure of the next 10 days with you.
Day
2 Malaga to Ronda via backroad curves.
This mornings goals are breakfast, bags, bikes, and blast off. We’ve got a lot to experience today. We’ll get an early start so we aren’t too rushed. The butte top town of Ronda is only a few hours away from Malaga but we are taking roads no tourist bus ever sees. Honestly tour buses wouldn’t fit. Once outside of town the vast and varied countryside opens up as we climb the mountains. Get ready for some twists and some unique vistas. Get used to your handling and braking because the curves and fun will last all day. Ronda our stop for the night is a popular spot with visitors as the ancient town is on a high plateau above the agricultural planes below. It’s ancient bridge still draws tourists to this day. We will stay right there next to the bridge at the local Parador.
Day
3 Ronda to Jerez de la Fonterra
Once out of the little city of Ronda we soar along the ridgelines of the mountains before turning to the forest. These forests will be filled with Spain’s national treasure. Special Iberico pigs roam these forests feeding on the oak acorns. These pigs produce the most highly prized ham in the world. The odd car you see parked on the road is merely a swineherd checking on their investment. Oak trees give way to rocky crags and grand vistas with the occasional white Andalusian town in the distance. Lunch is in the small Andalusian town of Grazalema. We descend out of the mountains to the lakes and wide fields below as we head to our home for the next 4 nights. Jerez de La Fonterra.
Day
4 Track Day 1 or Sights of Jerez
Riders, it’s time to live life at a higher speed. This mourning we head through the morning mist to the home of the Grand Prix of Spain. Your liter bike and coaches are there waiting for you. Today it’s about learning the lines of this famous circuit. Riding out on track for the first time you’ll feel like a hero entering a grand arena. Jerez is covered in grand stands, this is a track where riders are meant to be watched. Passengers it’s your day to explore Jerez. It’s old Alcazar/Castle, and the cathedral are impressive but Jerez is also known globally for two other things. First the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, one of the top schools preserving some of the lost arts of horsemanship that puts on shows for the public. Second is sherry, yes the drink sherry, it was invented here and the town goes to considerable touristic lengths to have you enjoy some. For a more authentic moment enjoy the local markets. We all meet again in the evening probably to enjoy some tapas.
Day
5 Track Day 2 or Sights of Seville
Track riders today it’s time to work on your braking and body positioning as your speeds increase. The track will starts to feel shorter as your reference points come together. Passengers it’s time for a day trip to the Capital of Andalusia, Seville. Hop on the high speed modern train in Jerez and enjoy the view of country as you are whisked along toward Seville. This city is the cultural center of the region and always ranks high as one of the top most enjoyable towns to visit. Seville Cathedral is massive, one of the largest most ornate gothic Cathedrals in the world. The Royal Alcazar is still used by the Spanish royal family today but most is available for you to visit. The Maria Luisa Park, Metropol Parasol and Plaza De España are good places to relax and watch modern Spain. A photo of the iconic Torre del Oro seems to always be a requirement as well. We all meet together again at night to enjoy dinner together.
Day
6 Track Day 3 or relax in Jerez
Today it’s time to put it all together and put in some good laps and get a glimpse of what the pros do when they are here. Stringing together the last section of lefts just right pays off. Passengers here’s your chance to come to the track today and see what all the fuss is about, if for no other reason than to take some candid photos in the hot pit. Professional track photos will be available for purchase. Tonight, who is up for a celebratory steak dinner?
Day
7 Jerez to Cordoba
Riders will be tired today from 3 days of track work so we’ve made today a short run but it is spectacular. Some impossible landscapes and crazy curves are ahead so get your cameras ready. We should arrive in Cordoba in the early afternoon. This is just enough time for you to grab some lunch and then go see the magnificent Mezquita of Cordoba.
Day
8 Cordoba to Granada
We’ll enjoy a leisurely start today. It’s a day of vistas, high speed sweepers and a few canyon runs. Big expanses of centuries old olive groves, farming villages and mountains in the distance. Just past a large reservoir we’ll hit another one of the those magical curvy European roads that shouldn’t exist but does anyway. A few more white Andalusian hill towns and we approach Granada from the east. Granada is more than just a major tourism magnet, it’s also a University town so it’s always a lively mix of young and the ancient. Our hotel for the next two nights is something special so we will check in early so you can enjoy it.
Day
9 Granada and The Alhambra
Today is a day off the bikes to explore Granada. You’ve come all this way, you should see the Alhambra. Yes it attracts throngs of tourists but it really is worth seeing. More specifically we want to give you opportunity to experience the last remaining great Mudéjar masterpiece, the Nasrid royal palace in the center of the Alhambra. Most of these great palaces were destroyed during the Iberian Crusades or “Reconquista” but this one was saved. You will have tickets today with a scheduled tour of the Nasrid and access to all of the Alhambra and Generalife. Of course we will have tips on how most to enjoy your day here.
Day
10 Granada to Malaga
We’ve still got some excitement in store. Ten minutes outside of Granada we turn off the main road and leave the tourist buses behind. We ride into the coastal mountains on a ride of curves and views that is pure Andalusia. Nothing else in the world looks like this. The sea finally comes into view far below us and curve after curve brings us closer to shore. Out along the coast we’ll stop along the beach for lunch. A last run into the coastal mountains brings us around the north of the city as we return our bikes to the garage in Malaga. Get ready for a great farewell dinner.
Day
11 Departure Day
It’s time to say goodbyes and realize you’ll probably want to see many of these people again. It happens all the time as many people make friends on a “trip of a lifetime” and then just keep doing more trips together every year or two. See you next time.
